About the Fighting Stance
The fighting stance is the first move to learn if you ever want to become a successful street fighter. If you don't know how to properly assume the self defense fighting stance, you will never be able to launch any powerful blows or kicks.
Why Is the Fighting Stance so Important?
First of all, it is the basis of most self defense techniques. A properly assumed fighting stance provides stability, balance and control over your moves. Moreover, the self defense fighting stance is based upon deception rather than obvious aggression. It means that you don't want to look threatening to your adversary as opposed to a boxing stance for instance.
Is it Difficult to Learn the Fighting Stance?
It's not difficult to learn but you should never forget why you are doing it. Although assuming the fighting stance may seem fairly simple, every single move has its own purpose. There are some very important principles behind the fighting stance I teach. The fighting stance will give you a sense of security and it will prepare you for fighting. Your assailant will notice nothing about this. From his point of view all of this will look like a smooth and natural movement, kind of like your natural reaction to danger. And this is exactly what you want: to deceive him. After a certain amount of practice you will get into your fighting stance automatically when you feel danger. You won't think about it at all. It will just happen naturally and you will be ready to launch your first strike immediately.
The Fighting Stance as a Trigger
The fighting stance also functions as a trigger in your mind. When you get into the fighting stance, it sends your brain the signal of being "armed". You will get this feeling after a certain amount of practice. When you are "armed" you are not a potential victim anymore. You are in fighting mode and totally confident about your intentions: YOU WANT TO WIN THE FIGHT!

What to Do When I'm in the Fighting Stance?
When violence seems to be inevitable and you have properly assumed the fighting stance, then you are ready to launch a preemptive strike. There are several very effective preemptive strike techniques, like the palm heel strike, the kick in the groin or the lead hook. That is what you should do before your adversary attacks and the situation gets worse.
